Meet Ivan Hofmann

Ivan Hofmann is a 33-year veteran of the transportation industry. Since joining the former RPS — now FedEx Ground — in 1985, he has played an integral role in building FedEx Ground into a major competitor in the business-to-business, small-package market.

Following his graduation from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Hofmann began his transportation career in 1970 as an executive trainee with a national LTL carrier, McLean Trucking Company. In 1973 he joined Roadway Express where he held various management positions including Operations Manager, Terminal Manager, Breakbulk Manager and District Manager – responsible for both Sales and Operations. He joined FedEx Ground in 1985 as Vice President of Operations.  In 1990, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations, responsible for FedEx Ground’s field operation throughout the United States and Canada.

He was promoted to President on January 1, 1993. During his tenure, the company reached significant sales and operation milestones—exceeding $1 billion in annual revenue and reaching 100 percent coverage of North America. With the acquisition of former RPS parent company Caliber System by FedEx in January 1998, Hofmann was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Ground.

Since retiring in January of 2004, Hofmann has joined Carnegie Museum of Natural History as a Board member and Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was also recently elected as a Councilman for Edgeworth Borough where he serves as a member of the Police and Finance committees and chairs the Planning and Properties committee. Hofmann is also involved with the Community College of Allegheny (CCAC) as a member of the Presidents Advisory Committee.

Additionally, he serves as an outside director on several corporate boards of directors.
